President’s Day Weekend brought about a couple three day tournaments for some of our teams. An 18s group went to the SCVA Las Vegas National Qualifier while three teams went to the NW Jrs Tournament up near Seattle.
18-1
What a tourney, what an experience, & what a weekend! After a tough & hard fought 2-1 start, we were able enjoy the great company of Club Momentum from Colorado & Coach Josh Kreunen at our annual BBQ & mini-Lu’au at our timeshare condos. Huge Mahalos once again to bruddah Hauoli & Uncle Willie for our lovely dinner music. On to day 2, aka marathon day with a 3rd game losing 15-17 to Rimrock (who finished 3rd overall in the tournament) & another game against local rival PVC going 34-36. We unfortunately lost all 3 matches sending us to the Flight 1 bracket for day 3. Sunday brought nail biters galore & exciting see-saw matches & we just kept winning & managed to take all 3 opponents down to win our bracket and finish on a very high note & second best Sunday finish in Vegas history for our club! Very excited for a short break before getting back to work & the heart of our season…..18-1s HIKI NO, Lezzzzzgoooooo!!!
18-2
The 18-2s that went to Tacoma for the Presidents Day weekend were in fact not quite an 18s team at all! We played with seven and had not one senior and brought up Jahzel, our 16-1 libero. Needless to say everyone got A LOT of playing time. With so much game time experience there was a ton of growth coming from these select seven. I’m proud of these girls for getting out of their comfort zones and playing in positions they wouldn’t normally play in, and do well too!
16-1
It’s easy to be a great teammate when things are going well. Our true character is revealed, however, when the going gets tough. The 16-1s had a big weekend ahead that did not go as planned. Such is life. We look forward to recharging the batteries during this week off so we can come back and dive deeper into the process!
15-1
The 15-1s had an interesting weekend because we were missing a couple of our usual starters. One thing that plagued us all weekend was how we kept giving up big runs. We would be competitive right up until a run and that was it. I was proud our girls on how they stepped up and had to take over for the two girls who weren’t there. We had a very fun match against the 16-1s and we pulled off the comeback win of the century to beat them in 3! We were down 6-12 and came back to win 16-14. It was fun to see the girls continue to grow and learn how to battle back when down.
